Sun 7 – Departure

Our last day is again cool as we collect our gear and our wits and say our farewells. A few have to leave early for Schiphol and air connections.

The rest of us exchange tales of where we are headed to next, laced with many an expression of thanks and ‘bon voyage’, and prepare to depart.

Fortunately, co-owner, manager, booking agent, Michel’s wife and behind-the-scenes powerhouse Mirjam appears as usual for the Sunday spruce of the barge and preparation for the next group arriving in a few hours.

We have the chance to thank her personally for her flawless operation.

We also farewell a similar barge the Feniks (Phoenix) just starting on its run to Bruges and Paris, carrying Dave, another former RAAF colleague, and Pattie. We have met many cycle tourists like ourselves during the two weeks, all enthusiastic about the experience.

A promised photo competition will be opened soon (see Competition page>), again dangerously but deliciously free of expert panel supervision. Details and instructions on how to enter and vote will be announced by Hon. Webmaster to members in due course. Your votes decide the results.

That’s all for now, folks. Send in your reflections, tales and accompanying pics and captions to form post-campaign blog posts. You can also comment on posts – scroll down to the footer to read or post comments.

Thanks for the ride.
