After a trial spin via the passenger ferry to the countryside north of Amsterdam on Sunday (MAP and stats HERE>), Monday dawned clear and cool. This was to get us out the door, being unaware that it would turn cold and rainy within the hour. All riders emerged from a rather scary transit of the city streets unscathed, despite attacks from all quarters by supersonic local Dutch riders, to progress more peacefully to the south on route 61 along the Amstel.
Before long, pretty houses, thatched roves and, you guessed it cows, appear. Turning west from the river to Amstelveen, our first tourist stop is a factory for clogs and cheese — though neither will fit in the bag.
The route has been slightly modified according to local bridge works. The Elodie is moored nearby at Uithoorn. Turning for the river and ‘home’ for lunch, Nico offers another ride for the stalwarts after a break.
